Homeopathy is based on a principle known as ‘the law of similars’ or ‘like cures like’. This law states that a substance that can cause a disease can also relieve it. You may have come across this concept in conventional medicine, eg the stimulant Ritalin being used to treat patients with ADHD, or small doses of allergens such as pollen being used to desensitise allergic patients. Homeopathy is patient-centred, so homeopathic medicines, known as remedies, are matched to the individual rather than isolated symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are very dilute in order to avoid unwanted side-effects. They come in tablet form and are taken orally. Soft tablet and liquid remedies are available for babies and young children.
Homeopathic remedies are made only from natural, organic sources. The manufacturing of all homeopathic medicines is subject to the same strict protocols as those governing orthodox drugs (MHRA). Homeopathic remedies are safe, non-addictive and can be used alongside conventional medication.
